Hello, I'm just spreading the word about our club. We are called the "West Sound Quad Riders", though we are due for a name change soon, as we are outgrowing the West Sound area. The riders in our group are very diverse, as well as the quads, with equally diverse riders. We enjoy trails, mx, dunes, mud, high mtn., etc..
So far we have put on two very successful ATV only poker runs in Western Washington, and are looking to put on more events(hare scrambles, etc.) We will post dates of events for next year after this weekend.
So far we have put in approximately 1,000 hours of volunteer service with the DNR, and have just started with trail patrols. We put on approximately 4 club sponsored rides a year and a year-end banquet. Although, most of ride together anyway. We are gaining a lot of clout with the DNR, they appreciate and need the volunteer hours, and we are able to gain permission to make trails better for ATV's. So far we have concentrated solely on the Tahuya Forest, but with the growing member base from out of our immediate area, we will be expanding our efforts to other places as well.
All we ask from our members is that they ride responsibly, do not pit/trailhead ride, wear helmets, and promote a positive image for the ATV community. Your level of involvement is up to you.

Sincerely, John Anderson, president, West Sound Quad Riders

Well it's official, we are now the "Washington State Quad Riders". Shoot, now we have to buy new stickers and banners. Oh well, it was a good move. We have definitely outgrown the West Sound designation. You can meet us at Sandlake over Thanksgiving weekend, or at the Tahuya on Saturday, November 15th or Saturday December 6th, at our work parties just below the Sandhill gravel pit. Also, don't forget to earmark our May 1st ATV-ONLY poker run in the Tahuya. We had over 250 quads show up for this run last year, and we expect to hit the limit of 400 this year. Look for sign-up info soon.

okay now i have to ask, does this have anything to do with the PNWQRA mentioned by raptorchick? having one organization that combines it all would be much better than multiple trying to do basically the same thing... it's all quad riding & racing.

No, we are not affiliated. We formed this club a year ago originally to make the trails in the Tahuya better for ATV's. Immediately we saw the need for ATV-Only events. We were tired of being second fiddle at motorcycle events. So far we have had good success at both. Now we are expanding, not competing with anyone. So far, as I have been told by the DNR representatives, we are the only ATV group that is active in substantial trail maintenance hours.

To sum it up, we are just a good group of ATV enthusiasts trying to give quads better PR, and put on some great events.

As Yodaddy1 said, we are not affiliated. PNWQRA is dedicated more to the racing side of the sport. We are trying to get tracks all over the NW to open up to quads. There are still a lot of tracks out there that won't allow quads, and that is what we are trying to change. We have recently added Longview MX to the list of quad friendly venues. These guys are great to work with. They are also in the process of scheduling some quad only events.
In addition, RMC has said that if we can get at least 30 quads out to practice on any given day, they will start having a "quads only" practice night every week and also consider doing some quad only events.
Hmmm.....with all this recent stuff going on, maybe I better get busy on another news letter.

Raptorchick, I have been in contact with Longview about quad only events, so far Rob has been open to the idea. We were looking towards the GP style race rather than a MX. Most of the Quaders I've talked to would prefer this type of event. I will definitely stay in touch with you over this. I'm sure there will be some way to work together in the future.

BroakenYak, you are more than welcome in our group, or at least to check us out to see if we are what you are looking for in a club. I would say that utility/4x4 makes up about 1/3 of our club. We are just now in the planning stages to put together some fun mud runs for the 4x4 guys. We also enjoy trailriding and dune trips. We are just now, after one year in existence, beginning to ride together and enjoy the fruits of our labor. We do quite a bit of trail maintenance in the Tahuya, as we consider it our "home base", and it is where we are beginning to improve trails for ATV use. So we are also a working group as well. We will be meeting on tuesday the 9th if you would like to find out more about us. PM me for directions.

Also, check out the Puget Sound Area Riders thread in the Where to Ride section of these forums, there are a lot of good hook-ups for local people who ride.
