Well the best mud/trail tire would probably be either of the 589 tires, mud bugs/ gators, and the mudlites are suppose to do really good in the mud and on the trail.

Default mud tires

Mud Lites, Goodyear Mudrunner or ITP 589s are all tires to consider.

My next set of tires will be Mudrunners or another set of Rawhides by Goodyear. W have had EXCELLENT luck with the Goodyears on all five of the family's machines.

589s - Brother has a set - a little rough on hard pack trails

Mud Lite - Smoother than 589s but not as agressive

Mudrunner - Smoother than 589 but more agressive than the Mud Lite.

i was in the same situation as you. I wanted a good trail tire that could hold its own in the mud. After a lot of consulting members in the forums I went with ITP MUDLITES. It seems that a lot of people are going to them from the 589's. Step on over to the Arctic Cat forums and talk to CatKrazy. He is a huge mud runner and says that the MUDLITES are the best thing he ever did!

I have the ITP 589's which are awesome in mud and snow. I only find they ride rough when travelling up to 5-8 km/ph, afterwhich I find them fairly smooth. I keep 4.7 lbs of air up front and 4.5 lbs of air in the back. I recently dropped into a mudhole up to the headlights by accident and those 589's pulled me out! The actual mud in the hole would have been over the axels, the rest was water.

Believe it or not SS Vamps are not a true mud tire!!! They are a great riding tire, very aggressize tread, and a all around good tire. My tires have worked wonders on my Eiger, Im not too afraid to try whats in front of me no matter what it is, if I DO GET STUCK, well thats where the winch comes in handy eheh!!!

I would go with gators,589's,or mud lites. What do you mean the mud lites are the best he ever did.THey aren't that great for deep mud.The 589's would out do them i think.

It is really hard to beat the overall performance of the GoodYear Mudrunner as the all around atv tire.

the driving that i do is about 60% hardpack trail and 40% mud, that is why i decided to go with the mudlites?

I would have to agree with Thor on the Goodyear Mudrunners being an excellent all-around tire.

Although I am still running the run-flat version and have just purchased some Mudlites to try out on another machine; I have never got stuck......in the nastiest of conditions....over 3,000 miles........ and they handle pretty darn smoothly on the hardpack and pavement.

Why they tend to be overlooked by a lot of people is anybody's guess.
