Kenda actually replyed to my question about PSi in the Klaws for the front. They say 5psi for all sizes because of their ply rating that is what they a comfortable with...... just a follow up

Yea Kenda seems to be a very "asain" company and not the easiest to get the kind of answers we may want. But I know the short answers are just a part of how things are over there so didnt think much of it.

I have run as much as 6psi in the fronts and as little as 2.2psi in the rears just trying different things to get better results etc and the only real problems I had was pinching the rear once with too low pressure landing a jump, and otherwise no problems related to air pressure.

One thing I did notice is that the fronts got sloppy under 4psi and the front suspension action felt soft also.

440EX here's somethin to keep the thread going. i have stock suspension on my 400EX. i found out that the rear shock was fully adjustable. i have the preload set how i want, but the rebound is too slow, i start off in the whoops fine, but after a few i start bottoming. i need to know how to adjust the shock; that is, damping, rebound, and compression. what exactly does compression and damping do??? i'm going up to pismo this weekend and should get a lot of riding time in so if i knew how to adjust the shock that would be great. i found a **** on the right side (when standing behind the quad facing the front of it) but it would not turn, even using pliers it wouldn't budge. there's one on the left side too. ne help will be much appreciated. thanx.

Do check out some of the links listed previous as they will guide you step by step on comp and reb adjustments.

Sounds like you could actually be having a problem called packing, and not actually bottoming out. This is when the rebound is set to slow and the wheels dont "rebound" fast enough to be extended for the next bump or whoop etc and it hits hard.

Unless they changed something the compression adjustment should be on the left side near the rez(same orientation as you noted) and the rebound should be on the rear or back, but its been a while since I even looked at the stock shock etc.

Both will increase when turned clockwise.

Something else to consider is that you will need different settings for soft sand and hard packed sand and rocks etc. So dont be afraid to make adjustments. Also there is a page just for sand settings on MX-tech.com and you can compare these to the normal trail type settings on their other page.

One last thing I would look into is what you actually mean or how the quad is set up that you are happy with the preload? Its not an easy thing to get right, and stock suspension sometimes makes us do things to compensate for the stock shocks short comings etc. An example is how many riders will just crank down on the spring to make up for bottoming, and it may help a little but will cause all other situations to be more harsh than they need be.

Hope that helped

thanx for the info. its my understanding that the preload is supposed to adjust ride height assuming that the compression and rebound are set properly. i have the preload on my fronts and rears set so that the quad sags about 2 inches when i sit on it. its a pretty comfy ride but a little too soft on trails. the quad feels like it wants to roll in the corners.

well thanx for all the info, but when i went to make a compression adjustment the adjustment screw was stuck and broke. when i was jumping, the seal on the compression adjuster broke, causing me to lose most of my fluid. right now my 400EX is gettin cleaned and fixed up to be sold on consignment, if ne body wants it, stop by Steve's ATV in oceano california. on monday i might be pickin up a new 450R, so you can expect some questions on suspension adjustment soon. for starters, where are the adjusters on the 450r shocks? i know how to adjust preload, i'm wondering where i might find the compression and rebound. thanx.
