Thanks for the input, I have went on the web site, I think you suggested a few posts back, offroad.com. It really help me understand the method & purpose of each adjustment. I hope to have the new shock installed within the next week or so. Then it will be a trip to the practice track for adjusting. I will let you know how it turns out.

Deffinately let us know what you find and any changes affect it etc. as yours is a pretty unusual set up and mixing parts etc should be interesting to see how close it starts out at.

Too bad we are not hearing from anyone with some serious experience setting these things up.

What do you guys think is better, Works or Elka suspension? I talked to Elka a couple of days ago and they will have struts for Polaris by spring.

Ohlins rebuilds go to the Quad Shop www.quad shop.com - Jeff can do an Elka conversion for you at a reasonable cost. He has done many a conversion on Cannondale Ohlins which I believe are the same as used on the Gas Gas - 19" dual rate - he turns them into a triple rate ZPS - niice. I believe he can do it for like 200 bones.

Works or Elka? Both are good

Seriously that is a loaded and tough question and here's why.

Its loaded because everyone has their favorites (or just repeats what they hear) and this normally turns into a flame fest of mine is better than yours etc.

The tough part is more involved since there are so many variables.

first thing I think of when best is brought up is if you mean best materials, design, built, valving or set up etc, and then you can throw in customer service if you ever have any problems or questions. Plus having a local dealer that is the best at rebuilding and setting up a certain brand may make them the best for you also.

Also there has been confusion and discussion before on which series of works shocks. You cant fairly compare a 500.00 set of steelers to a 1000.00 set of axis, but you could compare the pro series.

I may be repeating myself on this but I know that when I purchased my Elka's they were the best value of all the better known brands. The materials used and manufacturing of the product itself was on par with all or above all the other big names and the price was very attractive. Now the quality has improved but the prices have gone up considerably also (much of this was due to elka dictating selling prices by the dealers and several price increases helped raise our cost as well) so its a better product but not as great a value as it was.

I think you would be happy with either but would lean more towards elka, but thats me and you should do some research on pricing and performance etc for your model.

recently i've been looking into shocks, and i've done a lot of research on the different brands. the main difference between elka and works, is that elka designs all their shocks specifically for racing. even their reps will tell u that. works however, has shocks designed for racing, but has shocks that r not as "good" and r more affordable for the recreational rider. for example, i'm a dune rider, purely recreational, plus, i'm 16 yrs old, with no job. the elka shocks would not be a good choice for me, simply because i don't need the nicer shocks for my type of riding, and i can't afford the higher end shocks. whereas with works, i can buy a set of ok shocks for 400 bucks (with shipping and everything) and they would more than meet my needs. it's all a matter of necessity, and cost. hope that helped.

Good points.

I think the non rezy elkas are $500.00 but with how much the increase the prices it could have gone up.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with works or how you explaind it all so your on the right track for sure.

I am not a big fan of used but have been seeing some great prices on ebay lately so thats allways an option also, but remember the potential costs of rebuilding etc.

i was wondering how some works shocks for my vinson would be, i can only afford frounts 329$ and i want to know if they are a smoother better shock, my stockers have 3yrs on them, and almost 2000mi, of pounding big air jumping and mudding, water ect.

I honestly dont have any experience with the vinson except that a friend owns one etc. but Iwould have to think the works would be a major upgrade to the suspension.

From what I have seen the suspension action on many of the utilities is OK at best and if you ride how you describe I doubt there is much left to the shocks as these things just were not designed to be ridin like that.

I have seen people with the 2wd and 4wd kawi models get good results with the elkas, so I have to suspect the same idea would work well on the zuki.
