Mud Tires for 450ES
#1
I would like to replace my stock tires with some good Mud Tires. Also, keeping my original rims and without adding any mods. What is the largest tire siz I should go with, and what model of tire.
Thanks,

Hey there Mr. Wizard,
I am considering Buggs for my 99 450es and wanted to know what size did you go with? Do they seem to actually be lighter (thereby reducing unsprung weight)? I wanted to go with the stock width but just taller ie a 27X8X25 on the front and a 27X10X12 on the rear. I don't think they come in those sizes though. What have you experienced in the way of increased/decreased steering effort?

Thanks for the info. I see on the Maxxis web site that they plan to have additional sizes of the Mud Bug available "in the future". Have you heard from anybody about something in a 27X8X12 or 27X9X12? We ride in a lot of heavy Georgia clay here in North Florida and having tires sticking out beyond the fenderwells in a sure way to ensure a steady diet of the stuff. I'm also not sure if I could turn the big 27X12X12 tires. Have you experienced a loss of top end rpm because of your switch?

Did you have the stock tires on your scooter before you went to the Bugs? How far out beyond the fenders do the tires stick out? Do they sling mud, etc. that the fenders don't catch? How bad on front and rear? Have you experienced any bottoming out/fender rub due to the now taller tires? Are you using the stock Honda wheels? What changes do you notice in top end speed--any? I apologize for all these questions but I am running out of time (I need tires baddd! It's the rainy season here!) I am torn between going with 26 and 27 inchers and also between Buggs and Titan 589's. Help me if you can--tks. jz
