Aftermarket Suspension Questions
#1
All right all you aftermarket suspension owners, I have a question that hopefully you can answer. I have a 1995 Honda 300EX. I want to get into racing and I was wondering what type of suspension would be better. I am a rookie at all this suspension stuff, but I have been looking at the works suspension, and I'm wondering what is the difference between dual-rate shocks and triple-rate shocks? What is the remote reservoir good for and is it worth spending the extra money for? Also how are the shocks of other manufacturers, such as PEP and Custom Axis shocks any help you can give would be very much appreciated.

I will see if I can be a little help. I have Works tripple rate W/rezzy up front, and a ultracross in back. Tommorow I am gettin my 68 pound springs to replace my two front small springs. This is supposed to get it a little closer to a (zero preload type suspension). Dont get me wrong, it wont be valved right, but it is supposed to help. If this works I am gonna try the rear shock. Right now the biggest bang for the buck with out a 8 month wait would have to be TCS suspension. Keep in mind that if your going to go with wider a-arms or different length swingarm later, you will have to send your shocks in to get revalved, to to increased leverage and things. A few great companies to order your TCS shocks from is CT RACING,AND K&K ATV. They will get them set-up right, and get them out quick. PEP is probley the best out there, but its a lot of $$$ and a long wait. Hope I helped!

there is absolutely nothing wrong with the works shocks. ask the professionals, any many swear by them. ask alot of the people on this forum, and you'll hear that the 800$ shocks are better because you "get what you pay for". who are you gonna believe? if the money is burning a hole in your pocket, go with the tcs or pep or ohlins. if you are just a rider looking for a damn good ride at a fair price, go with the works.

I would have to agree.Unless you are a pro rider, you cant tell the difference between the top level shocks. If setup correctly for the rider, quad and conditions the performance will be very close.Dirt wheels did a test on tcs shocks for the 400ex compared to stock on a track and timed results.they shaved appx 6 sec off total time after minute and half lap. This is close for a stock versus tcs shock setup.Dont get me wrong, the stockers are good but will reach limits quickly when ridden hard.Pep,ohlins, works, custom axis, tcs would all probably be within 1 second of each other on timed run.Is it worth several hundred dollars more.Yes and no.Yes for the pro where a split second counts,no-for amatuer racers and weekend warriors where anything better than stock will do just nicely.

Hey FourtraxEX, would you be willing to sell the stock shocks off of your 300EX? If so, how much and is there anything wrong with them? Later....
