Maxxis tires/Timberwolf
#1
I had Maxxis sur traks(22x11x10) installed on the rear of my daughters t-wolf and Maxxis front-pro's(22x8x10)installed on the front this past Friday. The following data was made by measuring the tires mounted on stock rims, installed on the quad and inflated to 5psi. Measurements were made by placing a level on top of the tires and weights were made on a digital freon scale with tires mounted on the STOCK rims.
stock Dunlop(22x10x10) rear tires had approx.1/3 of the tread left, they measured 21 & 1/2 inchs and weighted 20lb. The Maxxis Sur Traks measured 20.5 inchs & weighted 27lb 5oz.
stock Dunlop(22x7x10) front tires with approx. 1/2 of the tread measured 20.5 inchs and weighted 16lb. & 8oz. The new Maxxis Front Pro's measured 20 inchs and weighted 18lb. & 40z.
Now for how the tires performed, on hard pack and mud the tires hooked up very well, ride was very good but you could feel the lugs on the rear tires between 2-4 mph, the fronts steered very well. Speed appears to be down by 3-4 mph due to smaller dia. of the tires, I will check by gps after I get cleaned up due to hurricane Dennis. If I had it to do all over again I would buy the Sur Tracks in the 23 to 24 inch range so I wouldn't loose top end or ground clearance!!!

Harold, very good post. That is the kind of info that I look for when doing research on a particular tire I am interested in, however I rarley find post's that contain useful info such as yours. Kudos to you Harold.

Ok here's my follow up after getting more seat time on the wolf, these Surtraks really hook-up well in the mud and hard pack the pro fronts steer very lightly compared to the stock tires. Now for the speed readings, this is a stock machine(2x4) except for a k&n air filter and a superwinch up front, I weight 200lb.all readings were taken on asphalt using a garmin gps 111. The wolf with the stock tires would run 47 mph and would NEVER get on the rev limiter, with the new tires installed top speed is 49.8 and the wolf WILL get on the REV LIMITER. Now if you read my previous post you will notice that the new tires are shorter than the stock tires, I couldn,t believe the wolf would run faster with shorter and heavier tires UNTIL I realized that it was turning more RPMS. What do you think???
