Increasing Tire Size Unequally

I have 25" tires on the back and 24" tires on the front of my KQ. What would the consequences/results be if I went to 26" all the way around? I have read where you should change equally, but has anyone done it differently?

SCman,you can go to 26' tires all the way around on the KQ,but there is a price to pay.Because of the larger overall size of the tire,you will see a decrease in power to the ground.I really would'nt go that big on the KQ myself with the smaller engine it has.You can get away with doing that on the larger 450cc-500cc engines without any real bad power loss.The larger engines are equipped to handle the extra stress that them tires will give you.You may also experience the tires scrapping the fenders a little.I installed Super Swamper Vampires on my bro's KQ,but I maintained the same tire height.WHAT A DIFFERANCE=====BILL

SCman, I would strongly advise not to go to an equal size all around. The gear ratios in front and rear are different and the oem tires are matched for that. If you go to 4 equal sizes, you'll experience torque bind when in 4WD and could suffer some damage. If you need larger tires I'd recommend looking into the kits that offer 4 tires/wheels(smaller front, larger rear) for the KQ and I'd make sure that whoever put the kit together did their homework in matching the tire sizes to gear ratios.

You can go with the same size tires all the way around if you compensate for the diffrence in height by "over inflating" the rear tires. Also, the terrain that you ride in will also impact the ratio of the tires. If you ride in mud, sand or another terrain that will allow the tires to "slip" the stress on the drive train will be reduced.
I just put four new SS Vampires on my Honda 300 4X. I went with 25X9.5X11 on the front and 25X12X11 on the rear. The front tires have 8psi and are 25 7/8" tall, the rear tires have 13psi and are 26 3/4" tall. Therefore restoring the one inch taller tires in the rear. By over inflating the tires I also futher increased the ground clearance by about an inch.

I suppose you could compensate with equal size tires by overinflating the rears, but why not just buy the different sized ones? Then you can run with recommended air pressure and have your cake. Besides on some terrain like rocks or hardpack I'd say it's better to have a soft pliant tire.---Z--93 King Quad

I am running 25" vampires all the way around on a Honda 300. Have this setup in place since 1997, except for Summer, when I put stock tires on to save tread. I ride with at least 8-10 others who have the same size tire front and rear and never change. I have not had any problems (yet-tomorrow I probably will now), nor has any of the others that I know of.
I always wondered why no aftermarket supplier came out with some type of mod to allow that without any fear of causing a problem.

Diameter of different brands of tires can vary among the same stated size. I personally wouldn't put 4 26" tires all the way around and then try to compensate for gear ratio differences by inflation. I would go to 25" in front(staying narrow like oem) and 26" in rear, all preferably of like brand and style. Just my opinion.
