ITP Mud Lite v.s GBC Dirt Devil
#2
The Mud Lite is a radial tire as well as being lighter than the Dirt Devil. Being a lighter weight tire they will give you a slight performance advantage in terms of acceleration. The Dirt Devils, although heavier, are a lot more resistant to puntcures than the Mud Lite. I've seen more flats (especially on the sidewall) associated with radial tires (specifically Mud Lites, Bighorns and ATR Holeshots) than with any other 6 ply non-radial tire. I've not yet had a puncture of any kind in a Dirt Devil or a Gator (both made by GBC, both 6 ply and of similar construction) and I've been running them for about 4 years on 3 different ATVs (26" XT Dirt Devils on a Grizzly and a Brute Force, 26" Gators on a Brute Force before the Dirt Devils, and 22" Gators on a V-Force which I've since sold).
When it comes to traction I'd say they are about the same. The 26" version (or larger) of either tire have deeper tread lugs than the 25" and smaller versions. Mud Lites wear down quickly, Dirt Devils (and Gators) wear like iron but when the Dirt Devils do get worn down (and the tips of the lugs get rounded off) the traction on grass suffers (but makes it really easy to power slide!). The Dirt Devils on my Grizzly have around 2000 miles on them now and still have most of the tread left with moderate rounding of the lug edges...

Right now my tire size is 25X10-12 on the rears. ITPs offer their XL in 25X10-12. Dirt Devils have a 26 XT as their smallest. How big of a difference will it make if i go with the 26X10-12. Im trying to stay with the bigger lugs.

I run 26x12x12 in the rear and 26x10x12 in the front. The 12x12 gives you a flatter profile while the 10x12 is a lot more rounded looking. Here's what they look like from the rear:
Gators (you can see the 26x10x12 front tires in the background on the Grizzly).
Dirt Devils
The Gators are mounted on stock wheels, the Dirt Devils are mounted on ITP C-Series wheels.
I like the added clearance the 26" tire provide. The 12x12's (especially on ITP C-Series wheels) stick out past the fenders enough to where you lose some mud protection. One could add over-fenders to compensate. You may lose some acceleration and top speed performance with the taller (and heavier) tire if that matters to you. It also depends on what kind of machine you are putting them on (how much power you have on tap for turning those tires)...

There are three types of Mud Lites, the regular ones that are bias ply, the Mud Lite XTRs that are radials, and the XXL Mud Lites that are 30" tall (unsure if they are bias or radial).
The XTRs we have work good, but the recessed pockets in the tops of the tread blocks do tend to pick up small stones and throw them at the bottom of the quad more than other tires I have had. You hear lots of rocks hitting the underside of your quad, but it doesn't seem to do any harm other than make annoying noise.
The Mud Lites get a little better traction in mud, and the Dirt Devils are a touch better on hard pack, and in sand. Both are excellent tires, so I would just get the ones you can get for a better price.

I've got the 26" DD on my Kodiak and just love them. They wear great. I've got 1500 miles and just starting to show some wear. Never had a flat with them. You cant go wrong with DD.
