Holeshots
#1
Hello Folks,
I recently got an '88 Quadsport 230 with yfz450 (Dunlop KT355) tires in the rear, and some generic ones up front. They are pretty much new but from what I understand they arent the longest lasting tires out there so I wanna get some ideas ahead of time. I know I want ITP Holeshot's but theres a whole bunch to choose from. I will be doing pretty much 50/50 trails/track so thats what makes it confusing. Plus, trails that I go on give you a mix of just about everything; mud, ice, snow, dirt, rocks, water, big hills, even occacional roads!, etc.) So, Ive narrowed my choices down to: original holeshots, gncc holeshots, sr holeshots, mxr6 holeshots, xc holeshots, and hd holeshots. so, what are the highlites of each design? whats my best choice? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

One thing on the little 230, is that you are going to want to keep it as light as possible!!!
For the trail conditions you described, I would go with the H-D...but they won't be the hot setup for the track (I think they are fairly heavy)!
I run the XC's. I ride lots of desert, but they also do well in a variety of conditions (we don't however ride much mud).
I think the mxr6 is to short. You will lose to much ground clearance to use them on any kind of trails.
I like the fact that the sr is radial! The gncc might be a good choice as well, but I have never ridden either of these.

Oh wow, I just realized how small the mxr6's are! So I guess I can skip those. The gncc's look real nice but Im not sure if they will be any good on the track. They look a little narrow too. The HD's look awesome with lots of side-bite, but I think they're much too heavy for a little 230. I dont think the SR's are anything special. The XC's seem like they would be a nice all-around tire, I wouldnt be too concerned about mud with them.
So I guess it just comes down to the XC's and the GNCC's. So does anyone know how the GNCC's do on the track? What do you think my best bet is?

On that machine, you might want to also consider the standard Holeshots. They are 2 ply front and 4 ply rear, where the XC's are 4 ply front and 6 ply rear, but I ran them for years on our Blaster and never had a problem with punctures. They did wear fast, however....
Another choice might be the ITP TracStars. They are radial, and really improved the ride of our 250's. They do run a little small, and don't have a very good lip to protect the rim (you need to run rims with a rolled edge).

i also ran xcs on my raptor660 they had great traction also right now on my warrior im running kenda knarlys which are even better than the holeshots i had and there cheapr 20in run about 70$ and there 6 ply rating and give even better traction , just another suggestion

I think the original standard Holeshots are the lightest of the bunch, seeing they are 2 ply front and 4 ply rear. Most of the other are either 4 ply front and 6 ply rear, or 6 ply front and rear.
I think the standard Holeshots are made of a softer rubber compound, and that is why they wear quicker. Softer rubber will give you better traction on hard surfaces, like the track.
