Wheels - Stock vs. Douglas
#1
Hello folks,
Pretty soon I will be getting new tires for my little '88 QS230 and I figured while Im at it, I will get some new wheels if they're worth it since the oem steel ones are kinda chewed up. Ive been looking at the Douglas Black Label wheels since they look like a good compromise between weight and strength, plus they are available for just about any quad. But I have a few questions; how much lighter are they? and are they stronger than stock? Im going to be doing quite alot of trail riding so the rolled lip might be a little tougher. Plus, I also go on the track quite a bit so the reduced weight will be nice.
So, do you think they're worth it?

I have always gone with ITP, because they have a greater offset and they are wider than Douglas. That makes me several inches wider and much more stable, without having to buy new a-arms, shocks, and an axle (or wheel spacers).

For trail riding, I would get the red label. They will still be half the weight of your steel wheels but they will not be quite as strong. Here are some weights of the Douglas rims per wheel.
10x5 - Red - 4.15 lbs
10x5 - Black - 3.85 lbs
10x5 - Blue - 2.75
9x8 - Red - 4.6 lbs
9x8 - Black - 3.95
9x8 - Blue 3.15
8x8 - Red - 3.95
8x8 - Black - 3.15
8x8 - Blue - 2.16
Buy comparison, the rear 9" steel wheels on my Ozark are about 8lbs each.

the Douglas Red Label rims are .190 alum which is the strongest ones they have unless you get the billet ones. i went with the red label after i broke 2 sets of steel rims. i have'nt broke these yet had them little over a year. now i said that they'll break tomorrow
