Default 250x/300ex head gasket problem?

Hey folks, I got a question for you engine builders out there. I bought a 250x that needed a head gasket. Well I ordered a set of gaskets, tore it down, checked the tolerances, and installed a new gasket. When I rotate the motor around to put the cam in I noticed the piston was hitting the head gasket. It supposidly has a 280 kit in it, which the bore measures about 1/8" more than the other jug I have (don't know what it's bore is either though). It appears this was happening with the old gasket as well. My question is this normal, or should I try and get the right gasket or a differnet gasket? Gaskets are Moose brand... Thanks for the help!
