Default trax systems

I'm new to the ATV world.
we have lots of new snow and wondering if trax systems are worth the money, used systems, draw backs & problems....?????
any help from current or former users please.
I know the dealers stories.

Thanks. Dave.

Hey thanks,

any noticable loss of power while they are on?
I'm looking at a (used)cat 650 and a (used)recon 650 -
I'm thinking they should both turn them fine, I'm unsure about anything smaller than a 500 not having power in deep snow.
we have about 16" now.

hay capt3017, id go with the 650 ac rather than the rincon(you said recon, thats a 250) because if i remember correctly, it dont have a low range. so if for some reason with the tracks you needed more power you wouldnt have it b/c no low range. just a suggestion. plus hondas seem to be a litle down in power compared to other makes and models with the same size engine. great, durable bikes though.

Thanks,
I am really torn between these two deals.
Both great machines - it may come down to the $$$.

Have you had any belt drive issues with the added weight of the tracks.
How hard to access & change the belt?
the Honda has the elect manual shift mode option.

i cant speak with expierience about any trax but i know alot of guys who have autos with belts and we do alot of heavy pulling as far as logging, putting boats in the water,mudding,ect... most of us also have larger tires. Of course larger tires arent as heavy as trax but, it does put more strain on the belt and no one has had an issue yet. i run 28"swamplites on my 700 ac and i recently went to wyoming and rode out there(im from st louis)with my tires and 14" of snow and my high gear would turn them just fine up the mountain. Also, you can and probably should get a clutch kit just to help save the life of the belt. I have one ,just havent put it on yet. they run about 150.00. Again these are just some suggestions if you were to get a belt drive. i know of guys that have 5,000 miles on there bikes with the same belt. im sure others have more. good luck in your decisions

Great stuff.
I have had sleds for years and am used to the clutch/belt system but this ATV and tracks has got me very interested - I'm done with high speed. but looking for a great time in the woods & snow.
this seams to be the thing - I just want to do it right.
how critical is a winch?

thanks.

Hey I really appreciate the info cause this is a whole new world for me.

of course now I'm wondering about the overall weight issue...... if I go 650 that is a big machine.
