What are the right tires for me?
#1
I have a 2011 Sportsman 400 H.O. w/ 2 inch lift, Sixity XTA series axles, Snorkels, 8 inch LED concepts light bar, HID headlights. I do a lot of mud riding, but have to take trails that have rocks and hard dirt to get to the holes. What tires do you recommend? I have 28" Mega Mayhems, but they aren't good enough in the mud. Thanks.

I would think the Mega Mayhems would be great in mud. One of the guys I follow on youtube, Cubbeezx, has 28" Mega Mayhems on his quad and they do quite well. He has an Outlander 1000 so the extra power doesn't hurt either. From what I've seen, mud performance is good but traction over rocks and logs isn't as good as the Zillas he has on his Grizzly 700(wife's quad). Zillas are available in 28's too. The lighter weight of the Zillas compared to pretty much every other mud tire I would think would be great advantage. Price isn't bad either, under $500 for a complete set of 4 in 28" for 12" wheels Maxxis Zilla

That's cool. I guess the mega mayhems simply work better with more power. Probably can say that with any kind of tire. That's why I thought of the Zillas, they shouldn't eat as much of your power as the obviously much heavier mega mayhems. He's the one that made me see how good the Zillas were too. He still has the Kodiak 450 and it had Zillas too so you don't need monster hp to turn them. Momentum is a big factor in being able to get through mud. Having lighter tires you can spin faster vs heavier tires that bog you down should be a better setup. I may get a set of Zillas myself for my Griz though I'll probably just go with 26's so no need for a lift or any other modifications. 26's and up get the 1.19" lugs while anything smaller only gets .75" lugs, quite a big difference.

28 Mega Mayhems are not good enough in the mud? Don't they have a 1.5" lug?

Lots of guys here are happy with Mega Mayhem, works great on some rocky and muddy trails. Couple of guys are on Mudlite XTR without any complain, claim they last longer.

Friend of mine put the 28"Zillas on his Sportsman 450 HO. He told me he really likes em. I like my Mudzillas, but they are good in the mud, but not the best. Wear like iron and never get holed, though.
