So i have an 86 quadsport, when i got it a month ago it had intermitent spark but ran halfway decent when it did get spark(smoked a little).. so i rebuilt the stator with all new coils reassemble and it starts first kick. It idled fine but in gear it would miss and backfire till it left out one good backfire and stalled. Went to kick it over again and nothing at the kicker. So i pull clutch cover and discover that i sheared a key on the crankshaft gear. So i replace that reassemble and try to start it. Now it backfires out the carb and has a scary kickback and wont start at all.. could someone please offer some suggestions. Ty in advance

 

have you tried gleaning and adjusting the carb? The key is shearing due to the backfire
