Are my shocks still good?

I have an 87 honda 250r. It seems to ride good and handle good, but I have nothing to compare it to. I was wondering how I can tell if my shocks are still good. I have no idea what they are supposed to feel like. If there was someway I could test them that would be great. Also how much of a difference would a good set of aftermarket shocks be compared to the stockers? Is it something where only a pro racer would be able to tell the difference or would it actually be worth the money for some new shocks? I don't race, but I do ride at a couple of tracks and like to jump. Also, is there any way of rebuilding the stock shocks if need be? Or is that something that needs to be sent in somewhere to do? Thanks.

I can't explain on how to tell if you're shocks are bad. Yes aftermarket shocks will improve handling and more adjustability if you want it.

Generally stock shocks on a 250R are worn out by now. An after market set of shocks will make a night and day difference in handling. Works are the cheapest upgrade but the higher end shocks are even better and worth every penny!

You are very correct on the adjustible part, but be warned if your like me I over adjust always tinkering. I ended up way worse than I started. My Axis shocks made a night and day differance.
