PolarisSportsman won't disengage 4WD

It has been locked in 4WD for a while(a coupel of months) but as warmer weather is hear I am not just plowing the driveway. It looks like what ever engages the transfer case is stuck (no it is not pulling it is in 4WD) How dose the system work?
