I have a 99 400ex. I am in the proccess of changing the axle bearings because I broke one. I have lossened the axle nut like said in the manual and removed the snap ring. The axle nut will slide like it should but it will not slide past the snap ring grove in the axle. I need help. Thanks.

I had the same problem when I changed my bearings. I think what happens is when the axle nut is originally tightened down against the retaining ring, it raises a bit of a lip on the groove. What I ended up doing was taking a file and just smoothing the edge off of the lip. It came off just fine after that.
