Axel changing, Help Please!
#1
I have a 1996 yamaha warrior that i bought at the beginning of last year and love it. It is a great quad and very dependable, but this past summer some of my cousins were riding on it and crashed and bent the axel. so i had to go out and buy a new one. My question is should i have it done at a shop to have it put on or do you think i could do it on my own, if you think i can do it on my own please tell me a way to go about it or a page that would help. thanks alot.

I'd save your money and do it yourself. First off go get you a service manual on the quad and follow the instructions. I would reccomend replacing the axle bearings why you got it apart. If the the sprocket is wore I'd go ahead and replace both sprockets and chain too. Why tear stuff apart a coulple times when you can do it all at once. I've never changed one on a warrior, but I've done it on my quadracer. What they typically involve is removing the brake caliber, one hub and the axle nut or nuts, then slide the axle out of the housing. Since you are replacing the axle you'll need to remove both hubs so you can get the sprocket and brake spindles off. I'd loosen up the axle nuts on both sides of the housing then remove the hubs and brake caliber. The chain needs to be remove too. Then remove both the brake spindle and sprocket spindle. Then slide the axle out and replace the bearings, pack some extra gear in the housing (maybe even add a grease fitting to the housing so you can add grease to the axle bearings). Then just install in the reverse order.
