Be careful if your going to go to Pismo & plan on doing a little swiming in the Ocean.


A woman swimming at Avila Beach died after she was attacked this morning by a large marine animal, authorities said.

The unidentified woman was swimming near the Avila pier when she was bitten on the hip and received severe injuries. Lifeguards, who happened to be participating in a local competition at the beach, pulled the woman out of the water.

She was later declared dead at Sycamore Mineral Springs resort, where the body had been taken.

Port San Luis harbor officials could not say what kind of a animal attacked the woman, but suspected it was either a shark or a sea lion.
