Default sand mountain question

my tailight was out over labor day weekend and the fuzz was giving me a real hard time riding at night even though i had a brake and head light. then last weekend when the BLM wasnt around I saw a bunch of dirtbikes and quads riding at night wihout any lights or flags, so it depends on what weekend you go.

a spark arrestor is listed as a rule, but I have never seen anyone checked for one. dont worry about it ... there are plenty of guys running around with drag pipes

I know this really isn't an answer to your question.

If you can ever get out there on a weekday, it is a treat.
There have been times I was the only one riding.

I don't much like the crowds and bumpy churned up sand of a holiday weekend.

best advice is to go to google and do a search for Friends of sand mountain they have all of the info you need or links to it.

So many "Sand Mountian"s. How do know which one someone is talking about, if they don't say which one?

Default sand mountain question

If they are from CA or NV it is Sand Mt., Nevada for sure!

First advise. . . check the weather and always be prepared for the cold!!! It is supposed to be 90 degrees here today and 42 as a High there this Saturday!!!

Jet for 4000' to 5000'. Remember (especially this time of the year) that it is much cooler up there (air is more dense).

The rangers will get you for not having a flag and they also seem to be looking for tail-lights (haven't heard of tickets for that yet though.)

As for head-lights. . . I'll just say this. . . if you run without head-lights and my Wife, Daughter or a friend get's hurt from you. . . expect a shot-gun enima!!!

Riding at night without a tail-light isn't that bad. If I am coming up on you I should be able to see the light your headlight is throwing. Riding at night without a head-light is STUPID! No way to see you until it is too late.

The reason I am a bit miffed at this is I heard there was an accident at Sand Mt. a couple weekends ago where someone was riding double on a Banshee at night without lights, oh. . . and I think no helmets! (Triple IDIOT!) This is what gives our sport a bad name!

oh yeah and firearms aren't allowed

be real careful out at the mountain, it has the highest stupid to non-stupid ratio out of anywhere
I have ridden, it amazes me to watch people fly by on quads to go watch life flight take someone away
and then fly back to there camps, the whole time not wearing helmets

oh yeah and my new favorite I saw, a mother with a 3 year old on the tank and about a 7 year
old sitting behind her, all 3 on the same quad with no helmets, thats my kind of mother, what
a twit
