Default Planning Oregon Trip...

I want to begin planning our Oregon trip for next spring/summer. Is there any time of year that is better than another? We don't mind heat, but obviously running in the sand we'd prefer it to be a dry as possible. I know that's asking a lot of the northwest but...

Winchester Bay is a must and hopefully there are other spots not far off.

Thanks.

If you want to ride the oregon dunes when the weather is( probably) going to be at least somewhat predictable you should wait until about the middle of june or so. The fourth of july weekend can get crowded at florence but its worth having a few more people around than normal because you get to see a lot of different machines and a lot of racing that weekend. If you get any definite plans made and need someone to show you around let me know.

I grew up in Coos Bay. I think the best time of the summer is toward the end of August and into September. This is when there is the least amount of wind and the days just seem perfect. In the middle of the summer it can be hit and miss because it gets very hot inland and can be foggy at the coast as a result. Winchester will be a good place for you because it's just a short hop down to Coos Bay dunes and you can even run up to Florence for more variety depending on how long you'll be here. To tell you the truth, though, I think this time of year is some of the best because the sand is wet and fast and very few people on the dunes - it's all good, though, that's the FACT!!!

Hey if you come Through Idaho you can hit the sand park there. After that you can head toward the coast and go to tillamook to hit SandLake, it is good for the family to ride there. Then down from Sand Lake you can hit Florence, and after that Winchester Bay which has some crazy hill climbs. There is a few different spots down in Winchester our around there. I think the only one I left out is Christmas Valley but if you go back from Winchester sorta the way you came you can go too Christmas Valley it's in the SouthEastern part of Oregon. I think that about covers it Christrmas Valley is okay from what I here theres a lot of wide open dunes and barely anyone too get in your way you can pretty much run wide open all the time there. Well good luck planning. Oh and from July to September and some of October is great for riding but we do live in Oregon and ya just never know.

I keep forgetting that not every state is as liberal as Utah when it comes to sound. How hardcore are the rangers on the Oregon coast when it comes to sound?

It's really a non-issue. I have never even been tested. I have seen bikes that were extremely loud and have only witnessed 1 test and the guy was riding like a jerk in the staging area. Be cool on the pavement and all is well.
