Best sand tire ?
#1
Hello
I see alot of bikes in the mag's fitted with snow tires are these any good in the dunes as i ride dunes 98% of the time but they are at a beach and there eare some bits of hard pack, grassed areas ect. the other 2%. Much of the sand is in tight trails, so sharp turning and power sliding is important.
Also as i live in Scotland the sand is often wet and paddels are a pain and hard to get over here Geckos are avalable but i didnt think much of them on my freinds 400 ex. All advice apreciated.
Thanks
ps how about realtors?

blue250r-Your question about snow tires in the sand is something that i dont know about but i can suggest a couple of options for a paddle tire.If you want very good straight line performance and very good hill climbing then a hauler straight paddle tire would be a good choice. If you want a tire that will slide very well and give decent performance on a hill climb or in a drag race situation then a sand skate 2 would be a tire to take a look at.If i could only have one set of tires for all around duning then i would choose a hauler because it slides well (if you have enough power)and it climbs very well.A good source to check out tires on your computer would be ROCKYMOUNTAINATV.COM.I hope this information help you in your search.

In my opinion a 8 paddle hauler would be a tire that you could get too slide just fine with your quad. You can go as high as 5 lbs of air and as low as 3 lbs to adjust for sand conditions with these tires so they would cover and type of sand that you would encounter.

I will keep it them in mind im not sure if i can buy them in the uk as atv sport is a poor relation to other bike sport over here.
although it is on trhe up and up in recent years with the new four strokes making hassel free riding more apealing.

Thanks
I had a look at them on the web site they look like they will do the job ok.
Have you ran these yourself and do you know which parts of the treads they cut to allow better sliding i presume its part of the central band?
Also do any of you have any gearing suggestions for the move up to 22" tires I currently run 20" dunlop knobbies
with a 14t front and a 39t rear this combined with the +4" axel makes it a bit high but it helps the knobbies hook up instead of digging holes. Any sugestions for a starting point would be much apriciated.

They will cut the tires for your needs. Best thing to do is call them describe your riding area and they can probably set you up. I have used them and they are a great all around tire. They can do the hard pack, sand trails and high speed duning. They are not the best chioce for drag racing but that didn't seem to be what you are doing. As for gearing I run 39/13 which was stock 86-87.

Thanks
sounds good i will have to look for a company willing to export them to the uk as i cant find any dealers here that
supply them.
I saw another thread on this site which shows a couple of pictures of the cut and uncut tyre.
I checked out your R it looks good.
I am considering changing mine four a 450r soon as the tank range on my 250 doesent suit the rides i do
But i will wait and see if the 450 matches the handeling of the 250 I have tryed most other bikes and still like my 250r the best. stabilaty is superb.
I presume these tyres would work just as well on the 450r ??
Thanks again for your help.
