Comparing the two is like comparing a county fair to DISNEYWORLD. If you're gonna go, GO BIG! Glamis(the imperial sand dunes) is 47 x 7 miles.

I've been going there since I was 15 and I'll be 31 in June. Its a major part of my life.

Oh yeah, do what it takes to get the paddles, even cheapies. Just get paddles. You're gonna spend half your friggin day just trying to get unstuck, and you wont have as good of an experience, unless the sand is a little wet.

Also, I HIGHLY Recomend your first few trips be with an experienced duner. It's an extremely dangerous environment with a lot going on to get caught up in.

BTW, Anyone else going out for the weekend of the 7th, I'll be in Gordon's Well area(Gecko).

Post in this forum or the Bomb forum, something like, first trip to Glamis, like to hook up with some folks etc. I sure you'll get responce, you want to go with some vets for the first time, personaly I don't go to Glamis with out the GPS on the bars, you can see it in it's Ram mount in this photo plenty of drinking water too

I'ld suggest Pismo for your first dune ride. There is no reason for you to drive the extra 5 hours to go to a place that is the Disneyworld of dunes.

Pismo will be better for all your buddies and that's what makes this fun is riding with your buds.

Watch yourself at Pismo. The urge will be to head fast off the beach inland and that will be the big mistake. The dunes drop off as you head inland. Take it easy and give it a little more on your way back in to do some jumping.

I like to ride the fenceline at Pismo. Go down to Marker 3 and follow the fence line. Eventually you will end up around Marker 7 or 8 and on the beach. It is almost a MX / trail kind of ride. A lot of fun with about 6 guys really racing.

Drive sideways at the top of the hill, look over the edge, then proceed. I have seen kids DIE because they did not see the 30' foot drop off over the hill! Please proceed with caution, the dunes are always changing, and can be very dangerous if you do not know what you are doing.

300 miles north on the coast, now called Oceano Dunes. Wait until summer, when it is too hot to ride at Glamis.
