That's my story,.....just be careful out there. Ride within your abilities and you'll be alright.

I did that once, wheelying while riding fast in a direction I knew I shouldn't (going west from Choke Cherry)
dropped off a dune
front pointing down
ground approaching fast
inhaled the entire seat and upper frame into my sphincter
managed to save it
people behind me thought I was a goner.
Yikes!

My Dad's best friend was at Florence, and had played on one particular dune all day. Then the next day he and his son decided to do a long ride, and when they came back, they came back down the same dune that they had been on the day before.
They decided to race each other to the bottom of that dune, and he almost killed himself when he hit some whoops or holes or something that just "appeared" at the bottom of that dune in a matter of hours apparently. Would this be what you are describing as a witches eye?
To this day, he doesn't walk right. It sersiouly messed him up. ...taught me to always ride an area slowly immediately before doing any high speed stuff.

LOL. Glad you made it. How did your quad look after you hit?
I always carry a pair of pliers with me...just in case I need to pull the seat out of my butt when I do something crazy.

That's all it takes, a matter of hours. When the winds are blowing it can reshape a dune in no time. So just be on the look-out. Witches eyes are a pain, but thats something you'll have to learn to deal with when your playing in the sand. They can appear anywhere and doesn't take very long for them to form. That's most likely what your dad's friend ran into.

Sounds like your dad's friend found a witches eye. My wheeler made it out just fine, I dropped about 25 feet and the front tires hit just before I got to the bottom, and the back got down just as the steep downhill turned into flat bottom.
I was thinking all the way down, "Gonna hurt".
And I already walk funny from a triple fracture, old people like me should know better.
