I don't think shutting it down for a year will solve anything. Once you open it back up everyone including their grandmother will be back out there tearing the place up.

Limited access seems more feasible for long term preservation of the dunes as well as sustaining the local economy. Currently they are letting too many people into the park.

I agree... the amount of people on the beach during the summer months is crazy! I blame it on their check in/out system personally. I think many, many people are camping out there on day passes and they just don't have the resources to "catch" these people. If they made the check out process more mandatory such as stop at the gate on your way off the beach and turn in your window sticker I think it might stop all the extra campers that technically should not be on the beach and are camping illegally. You don't have an overnight window sticker, you get fined the $270... plain and simple! It would just take one ranger to stand there and collect stickers as people are leaving.. not a huge cost increase for the Parks systems... but a huge benefit to those of us who camp legally and want to enjoy the dunes a little less crowded.....Just my $.02

The sport is growing very fast, and places to ride sand are getting shut down faster. It sucks and we cant do much.

Unfortunately a one year closure would never work. Once they close it it's gone!!! They would never open it again. They need to reopen the closed portions to give everyone a bigger place to ride and take the pressure off the area that's open now. I'd sure like to see Devils Slide reopened..........

I agree opening up some more land would ease some of the problems. From what I have seen most of the area that has been closed off for years has vegitation covering it now. Opening up the area would ultimately destroy the plant life and there is no way the "greenies" are going to allow us to do that.

Actually all Pismo needs is one good strom, and I mean hurricane status. So that it can clear all the crap built up over the years. If anyone here is any kind of tree hugger then they would know that Hurricanes are only natures way of flushing the crap out. Peace!!
