Winchester bay sand?

How loose or solid is the sand right now @ winchester bay. Me and my boys are going to the oregon dunes in 2 weeks. Has the sand started to loosen up. I was wondering if we should bring the mx tires with are paddels.

I was just there last friday and saturday. All I can say is foam. Tree shooting was almost impossible. When you see an area thats been through 2 springs breaks already and no one has attempted to climb, its bad. The main riding area is fine. Seen some people riding knobbies and were making it up most hills.

When you get off main areas, the sand seem air'y. If that makes since. Usually on the north side of hills and down by the trees. And also with spring break use, riding area is real rough. It will change if the wind picksup and rains some. Out of the three areas, coosbay, winchester, florence. Winchester seems to have the softest, fluffiest sand. Thats just my take.

How about this. Its soft and dont go down any step tree shots unless you have a buddy with a winch. Just get out there and enjoy.
Sick...... Only make it out to the dunes maybe three times a year. Mostly ride at spinreel or winchester, But I am planning on a trip to St Anthanys in May. If you ever see a green and orange kfx, that may be me.

You should be using paddle tires on your quads everytime you goto the dunes, why are you considering MX tires? My experience is that paddles are king in the sand no matter what the conditions are, I would never resort to using MX tires even if it were hard packed.
I was down there last week after all the rain and there were very large standing puddles blocking most of the trails and the sand was pretty packed down, but the water is only near the road and in the flat sections so the inner dune area is just fine to ride in. I would assume that that standing water will be gone now unless it keeps raining down there.

looks like I willl be heading over to winchester on wednesday (weather providing) I guess I will see 1st hand what this "foam" is like.I sure wish someone made some paddles or something similar that are 23" . So far the is the only thing I don't like about my 06 wolverine: keeping tire size the same because it is 4wd. I love the way the low profile rear tires make it handle.I don't want to lose that and I think I would if I put mud tires on the back. This thing has 12" stock wheels.............
