Default So I went to Glamis for the first time...

So, I went to Glamis for the first time. I went on Monday as everyone was leaving for President's day, and rode Monday and Tuesday. What can I say...the Sand there is incredible. At times it feels like fresh powdered snow.

Anyways, I learned something about my Predator 500...which is still stock. I assume I need to unlease a little power. They bike was bogging down at times in fourth, and definitely in 5th. I have Sand Stars on the rear, and when I was on a pretty open run and shifted into 5th...it started to bog down (clattering). I was doing around 50 mph...is that too low for 5th??? The last time I took the bike out was in the desert, and this was not an issue on hard packed dirt. I realize there is a lot more drag in that soft deep sand.

I also noticed a couple of times in a little rougher sand...got the same clattering noise in 4th gear.

My assumption, is that I need to unlease a little power. I am a big rider so that coupled with the drag of the sand...maybe stock just isn't enough.

Any ideas???

Great place for "off" weekends. I quit going all together, too many turds go there just to party and cause trouble. Not worth it for a family. Especially with all the closures; it's too crowded.

Other than that, yeah, great dunes! But I prefer Gordons.

All I can say is in Sand Horsepower is your friend. You may also want to check and see if your chain is a little loose. Definately get more air and gas to it and it will make a world of difference.

If you let off even a little bit it will start boggin down but if you stay in it you should be fine.

You will find out alot more on Predatorowners though. Good luck.

Rekd, I definitely hear what you are saying. Although I have not been there on a holiday weekend, I have seen enough videos on Youtube. Definitely don't feel like having to go there and get into it with a bunch of drunks.

As for Gordon Wells, does that require the same weekly or annual permit that you would get for Glamis. And is it basically like Glamis dune wise. I have heard that buttercup is nice and doesn't get the same crowds either.

Yes, the same ISDRA pass works at Gordons and Buttercup (across the freeway). Buttercup is less packed, but smaller. You can actually ride (or drive) from Gordons to Glamis. Never done it, but I think it takes about 1/2 to 3/4 hr.

Is Gordons Well where everyone lines up and people drag race down the middle??? I've seen videos and that seems a little crazy too.

Yes, they have sand drags there. See video here. But it's not down the middle of where people camp like you think. It's up on a hill where they are seperated from other traffic. The crowds are huge and you can't accidently ride through them.

The LEOs are there quite often, but there are rarely any problems or accidents. There's actually more accidents by people crossing dunes incorrectly than are hurt at the sand drags.
