im a dune/ so caldesert rider and some what of a dragger and would love to see 1 of these with a str8 axle.</end quote></div>
For what it's worth, it just came in 1st and 3rd in the Baja 500, but that race has very little dunes in it.
I did drag race a piped, filtered and jetted Raptor 660 and beat him. I'm no drag racer though and it was close till I got into 3rd.
I was surprised I won though.

Seems that CARB (California Air Resources Board), has to find every way it can to dick with us! Give us all a break with those CARB "at the crank" horsepower numbers...they are pretty much meaningless in the real world! People post them when they make their favorite machine look good....and ignore them when they don't. They totally disregard things like the weight of the bike, tires, terrain....like I said...useless comparisons under "real world" conditions!
As for the Raptor vs YFZ in the dunes, I have lots of freinds who own both (in the same family!). The Raptor carries its weight a little high (and it's a fair bit heavier), feels a little narrow and slightly tippy, and while it is a torque monster off the bottom, it falls off the power curve early compared to the YFZ. I have put in a fair amount of saddle time on each, and I always prefer the YFZ hands down, but that doesn't mean I would spend my hard earned money on either one.......

that is true about falling of up top but a 140 buck cam will solve that. i do wish they would have put the rad lower in the frame. but my 700 does not feel tipy like the 660 did.
ya honda is the only way 2 go if you do baja. one of the main reasons for that is honda is the only maker that will pit you down there. if you want 2 race something else you wont get comp support.

Yeah my buddies complain about the same thing.

The average rider doesn't want to tear into their engine, so doing a cam isn't on their agenda. Beside, it is such a torque monster down low, I don't think most care unless they are drag racers.

I think torque is pretty important to trail riders.
