Maybe someone can help us out........Call your local DNR office and ask about sound testing before you go to the dunes. I tried this but haven't had any luck. I called my local office ( bay city) 3 times and left a message for the lueitenant in charge of this....he hasn't returned my calls. His sec. did think we could get an early test if we could just get a hold of him. I don't want to drive 2 1/2 hours just to be turned away at the gate.

I'm with the rest of you guys. I can't wait to go too. I don't think that I can make it there until June though.

I also called the DNR a couple of weeks ago and luckily was able to speak with someone about the new law. The deal is, yes everyone has to have a U.S.F.S. approved spark arrester. As for the dB limit, depending on the cc size of your motor in your quad, you have to maintain a maximum of 94dB's. For example I currently own a 400ex. I also currently have a FMF Powercore IV s/a slip-on pipe on my quad. I have to meet 94 db's at 3500 rpm's. My rev-limiter kicks in at 9100rpms. So, theoretically I need to be at or below 94dB's at about 1/3 throttle. The measurement is taken 20 inches away from the exhaust system. In my case I don't know. I haven't been up there yet to see what the deal is. I don't know maybe I am wrong about that. But that is what I would guess. I am not for sure, but I would guess that wide open, my exhaust system peaks out at probably around 98-99dB's wide open. I still plan on bringing my stock pipe with me just to be safe. I live 8 hours away from Silver Lake (I am not originally from Toledo, I just attend college in Toledo) and would be really pissed after driving 8 hours and not being able to ride. Sure, I would be pissed about not being able to use my FMF pipe, but I would rather ride with my stock pipe then not ride at all. I am sure that many of you would also agree.

Supposively, from what the DNR person that I spoke with on the phone said that this law has been around for a long time. But they only checked it on dune buggies and big off-road vehicles. I don't know if that is all that accurate, but I guess the guys who had sand rails (dune buggies) and off-road trucks were complaining because they felt that it wasn't fair that they couldn't get into the park and motorcycles and ATV's had no problems getting into the park. So from now on, they are going to check everybody.

Honestly, if you want my opinion, I don't think that the DNR is going to make a big deal about all of this. Seriously, I have been going to Silver Lake for years, just like many other people. And lets face it, throughout the last couple of years, Silver Lake has become a very popular riding park to attend. It has gotten to be so big that now you need to get a voucher if you want to ride on the weekends because it is so crowded. Now, knowing that do you actually think that the DNR is going to want to pass a law that makes hundreds of thousands of people who normally attend, not be able to attend. Think about how much money the DNR will loose. Passing a law that chases so many people away is like the DNR shooting themself in their own foot. I don't want to say that the DNR is either smart or stupid, but seriously, I don't see any logic to pass a law that would not only hurt the parks reputaion, but chase so many people away and loose who knows how much money that they would loose. The reason why I say this is because look at the amount of people that attend at Silver Lake have there machines that are tricked out. Sure, at the same time there are also a lot of quads that are in stock trim, but there are a lot I mean a gigantic handful of people that have tricked-out modded to the max, quads. I seriously don't think that DNR or Silver Lake could survive if they shut the park down to the gigantic handful of people who have tricked-out quads.

Well, thats my humble opinion. What do all of you guys think. Thanks for any input.
