Best Dune Quad
#11
I finally decided that I was going to get a 400ex just because it didn't have as much power and since I was new to atving n all. I'm still kinda afraid of rolling it so that was another factor that played into my decision. I didn't want to get something that would get me hurt like a big 660. I do plan of building up the motor and putting on someother mods for now. Thanks a lot.

havinnoj,
Before I moved to Oregon I owned an LT500 and a Banshee. I didn’t know I’d be moving to Oregon at the time I sold them. The 400EX is awesome for the logging roads and trails. But I miss the crap out of the big HP of the LT500 and the Banshee for the sand dunes. The guy I sold both of these machines to stores them in Hillsboro; I ride both of my old machines twice a year at Coos Bay. I’m kicking myself for selling the LT500. The 400EX is fun in the dunes, don’t get me wrong, but it lacks the HP to really enjoy the dunes. I’m a heavy guy and the 400 just runs out of breath. Consider that after your comfortable with the 400 you may want more HP than the 400EX is capable of making with mods.
I’m thinking about buying another LT500.
Just my 2 cents

havinnoj, congrats on making your decision on what your first quad will be. I just put my pipe, k&n, and dynojet jet kit on my 400ex this weekend. Did some riding on my property today, and I really like the amount of power that I have now. I'm heading to Sand Lake on Saturday, and there will be many trips in the weeks to come. Let me know if you ever want someone to show you around. I've got weekends off, and if the weather is good, I'm going to try and make it at least one day every couple of weekends.

Yeah I'm thinking about that right now. I think I might put a 440 kit in it in the near future. Chad thanks for your help. You have your EX set up just about the way I wanted mine. How do you like your Yosh pipe and the Gecko's?

The yoshi pipe looks and sounds really good. The bike "feels" like it gained alot of low and mid-range power. I am going to get the T.E.C. (Tuned End Caps) for the pipe, incase I ever need to decrease the sound output. I talked to the guys at Denton Racing, and they're selling the set for $40. The gecko's seemed to do a really good job in the dunes. I could climb all the hills at Sand Lake with no problem, and everyone kept coming over and looking at them because they hadn't seen any before. I'm going to mess around with air pressure and find out what my best set-up is.

If either of you two Oregonians, (or any other Oregonians) want to get together and do some riding this summer, shoot me an E-mail, and maybe we can hook up at either Florence or (my favorite), Winchester Bay.

I'll be heading to Winchester on Friday the 26th then to Horsefall Sat and Sun. If you guys are going to be there let me know, I'd like to get together. There will be a bunch of us from Portland and a couple of my friends from Alaska.

I wish I could meet up with you guys, but I am in college right now, and don't get out till mid June.
As soon as I get out in June, me and a few friends are going to St. Anthony for a week. After I get back, I would definately like to hook up though!
Like I said, Winchester Bay is my favorite, but I have no problem going other places and checking them out also.
