Well not to be the odd ball out but I rode my dale in the sand for the first time on saturday........man did I have a smile. Now I have not ridden a raptor or ds so I can't yeh or neh those, but the dale handled everything with ease and with the high revs (11,600) you can just pull a hill in one gear, its great! Also as far as size I am a big guy too, close to 250 and I feel VERY confortable on my speed. I can't stand to ride a 400ex anymore it "feels" way smaller!
Just my thoughts,
Josh

Why do you not want a 2-stroke?
I would say a 4-stroke for anything but the sand.
I personally would go with a 2-stroke for the instantaneous wheel speed that is often required to get up on top of the sand and get you moving when coming out of a hole, or racing up a hill climb.
Just my 2 cents.

Well, I just got back from Saint Anthony and had a chance to get some good video of all of the mentioned machines (except the z400) trying to get up Chokecherry hill. The banshees made it up the easiest of all, the 1 Cannibal there made it up just as easy as some of the Banshees although his front end was pretty light the whole way, the 1 DS that tried couldn't make it up, and a couple of Raptors made it up although most didn't. I won't even mention the 400exs.
Personally, I still think the Banshee is the best dune machine out there after that I would say the C-dale is probably the only other one that has what it takes to conquer the tough hills. Granted, there is more to duning than climbing the steep hills but in the sand you need power and the Banshee and C-dale are the ones that have it. The DS is probably the best choice for an all-around machine especially with that plush suspension to absorb those unexpected razorbacks and ridges in the sand.

Thanks for the report WyoDuner!
What gear were the Banshees in when tackling choke cherry?
Were they modified, or stock?
Did you see any 250R's there at all?
We are supposed to get there in about a month from now. I can hardly wait!
Where did you guys stay for the trip?
How did the paddles hold up?
Oh yeah, approximately how tall is choke cherry?
So many questions.............

too be nice is one thing but too listen too long.to this is another the cannon dale and the raptor have to climb on rpms. The ds can torque its way up any hill and that's a fact in most racing on hills I awaite the victums at the base of the hill and when they get to me i slame them to the top and many people have seen me do this at glamis, gordon wells, hundred dollar hill.and banshees too there are not many that beat. me well there are but thats all they do is hills and i can run track with mine as well.im not saying any thing like these arent good bikes but lets not presume either one has the torque to the ground that the ds dose!!IT JUST AIN't TRUE!!!

Not knocking Ds's, but AzSand have you seen Choke Cherry Hill? It's like 350ft high and about a 65-70 degree slope w/ no run at it. The sand at Saint Anthonys is scary soft. I'm surprised a Raptor can get up it. It must have motor work. Go up Choke Cherry get to the top and look down at your tracks, what tracks, they're gone. The sand just fills in as fast as you leave it behind. If you don't make it and don't turn around quick enough you can kiss your quad good bye...
