Which Paddle's are Better?
#1
Im just about ready to buy some paddles for my banshee. I can't figure out to get haulers or sand skate II's. Which one's are better? and if i go down to an 8in rim, would that make a better improvment than a 10in rim?

Skat Trak Haulers work the best for straight line racing flats or hills..(not as good duning)
Good sizes for max power 22-11-8 or 21-12-8 with 8 or 9 paddles depending on your power.
Or if you want all around great paddle go with Sand Skate II (not as fast for racing but better
at duning and still good for racing) JMO...........I GOT SAND SKATE II LEFT OVER FROM RAPTOR AND I'M GOING TO BUY HAULER'S TOO (HAVE BOTH)... Digger

My Extreme Haulers work great for Sand Drags & Hillshooting. Mine are 8 paddle 22X11X10's on 9 inch wide rims. The 10in look better, the 8in would probably be better if you ride in rougher areas.
They leave something to be desired for turning however! I'll probably be ordering some Sand Skates or something similar for dune running & just use the Extremes for drag racing.

Well, for the Banshee I STRONGLY recommend 22" tires. That's rule number 1. Rule number 2 is don't try to pull more paddles than your machine is capable of. Rule number 3 is if you want to hill shoot or max traction then straight paddles are a must. If you want more turning power get some ribbed front sand tires. I just switched from 20" 10 paddle haulers to 22" 8 paddle Chen Shing Dune Hoppers and I'm very pleased with the Dune Hoppers. They pull faster on top end due to less paddles but still hook up very well and throw a nice roost. They cost half as much as Haulers too. Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead with V paddles on my Banshee.
On the fronts I swapped the stock tires with GBC dune trackers and they turn much better now; so much that I had to get used to the extra bite up front.
As far as 8 or 10 inch rims... Well, it's mostly cosmetic as far as I'm concerned.

I think that a 10 inch tire comdo weighs less than one on an 8 inch rim. I have never weighed them but it makes sense to me.

I went from 20" 8 paddle Skat Trak Haulers to 22" 8 paddle Dune Hoppers on the Zilla, and I was rather impressed with the Hoppers, both tires have 8" rims. Two reason; first I needed taller tires so I wouldn't high-center when I hit deep ruts in the sand (happens more than I would've thought) and second I needed to put the smaller and lighter haulers on the stock 400EX. I myself have never tried the V-pattern paddles, but I don't feel that I have that much problems turning.

A couple of other brands to consider: Kenda Geckos and Maxxis Roosters.
Geckos come in angled paddle only but are not side specific when it comes to installation. The angle configuration is very unique, and price is reasonable also. I've only seen them on a 400EX in the Oregon Coast Dunes (where I live), and they throw a LOT of sand. No problem with the hills either. I think they only come in 21" height but for 8 or 10" rims.
The Maxxis Roosters are ones I'm currently researching and considering buying myself. Rooster models include a front 'tracker' style sand tire and straight-paddle or wedge-style paddles for the rear. Somewhat more expensive per tire, but Maxxis obviously has a good rep in the mud/turf tire area.
