Coos Bay...Sound restrictions?
#1
Doesn't Oregon have some kind of sound law? Would my 250R with an FMF pipe with Turbine core silencer pass? If not, does anyone know of a quieter silencer?
Thanks in advance.

It's really hard for any bike to "pass" a sound check. Go to www.oohva.org they have some actual test results of different types of bikes and it tells you what kind of pipe they had on them. Just make sure you've got a spark arrestor, and don't ride like an idiot around the parking area and you'll be fine. Once you it the sand, it doesn't matter.

I just looked at that website for ya. I think you'll be okay if you have a freshly re-packed silencer. There were some 250r's with the same set-up that were legal, but quite a few that were not. I'd say fresh packing was what made the difference. The limit down there is 93dB, and the range of tested bikes went from the high 80's to the low 100's. I know my pipe runs at about 95 dB with the most open end-cap, and I haven't been hassled yet. I will repack my muffler on a yearly basis, and things should be fine.

I had a '89 250r with a new FMF pipe and Turbine core, as soon as I got the silencer I repacked it tighter and it still hit 102db on the db meter. I also have a friend that has the same FMF pipe (fatty) and he bought the FMF "Q" series silencer, it is quit a bit quieter and FMF also says it meets the 93 db limits. Cascade innovations (www.cascade-innovations.com) out of Boring, Oregon also make's a silencer that will meet the Oregon requirments. Hope this helps.....
