Hey thanks for the info. Yeah if they arn't done by memorial it will be a big mess up there. I know last year i talked with the cop lady and she told me they were expanding that area way back in because they did a land survey and found out it was state land not the farmers land. But it doesn't sound like a whole lot has been done guess we will just have to hope for the best..

hey shady rascal im wildwildweb's friend with the 02 raptor and I just read this thread. About soft rock, you will get a ticket if you are caught riding up there now. I just started working for Armadillo next door to the corn maze where we make aftermarket atv parts. They are big riders around here and they got pulled over and given the run down last year apparently. So dont go up there unless you want to pay a fine. Just a little insite for ya!!! Thats a bummer about the cliff story last fall. This summer stop in at Armadillo or come on up Hamilton Heights and go riding with us

What I heard on the news was the kid that died was from Northern Utah on a motorcycle, He went off of a dune into the lava rock. This is too common so slow down when you visit. As for the parking lot, they keep saying they will have it finished by May 23 (holiday weekend) but they never work on it. It is all graveled and expanded, even the old camping area has been graveled so you don't get stuck. It is huge compared to what is used to be. They have been working on putting up barbwire fences on the entrance road and parking their equipement pretty. Maybe they are just waiting for the pavers. As for conditions, It has been raining a lot, but it only takes a few nice days to dry out. Last week the hills got chewed to hell. The sand barely dried enough and it blew yesterday(may 23) to make some decent sand. Some peaks are very pointed and there are some wicked bumps from leftover wet sand. Also I am noticing BLM and the jefferson county sheriffs office are at the dunes much more so be legal (flag and OHV sticker). Also ride in the lots slowly or else one of these guys will hop on their raptor and chase you all the way accross the dunes if they have to. As far as I know of events there are none. These dunes weren't very travled until about 6 years ago so no one has really organized anything. If you guys have visited you have seen there is usually guys at the north side of thunder (crapo's) to race. Have fun and I will see you there.

So what would it take to organize an annual event here?It would be so cool to have like a sand drag event in the summer where the lake is dried up, a few sand drag races up Thunder and one out at Choke too!! I would go every year!! This would bring in a little revenue to the surrounding counties also... Any thoughts or ideas???? Tina........

In my last post I said jefferson county officers but it is fremont county. The lake doesn't dry up in the summer. It does late fall to winter then in about the last 2-3 weeks from today it fills up (starts around may 1). I can't think of any really good flat areas to drag but the hills are cool. To get something organized you just need someone willing to organize (logistics, legalities) and people to advertise.
