What was the reason? A plant, bug, rat or? They were closed like 20 yrs ago. Any of you older fellows remember the reason?

I went to them today in my jeep. Ya can walk to them but no motorized stuff. Sux cause they cover 129,000 acres and are the tallest in So Cal.

Thinking maybe we could trade Dumomt for Kelso! LOL

 

I went there as a kid. What I heard was that the wind makes a unique sound (I'm not kidding!!) as it blows over the dunes, so they figured they had to preserve it. It is completely rediculous to be on foot in a place like that.

 

They are restoring the old hotel at Kelso. Why don't they put in gas pumps, sell atv/dirt bike tires, oil ect and re-open the dunes? I think it would work plus would pay plenty of taxes to the state.

I've never been to Kelso before yesterday, I believe that it was closed before my time. The sign at them did talk about the noises they make. Big deal, the sand will "fix" it's self overnight anyway so it's not like we are causing permanent damage.

Maybe I just think too much?

Bottom line is that "environmentalists" are really not so much pro-environment, as they are ANTI-PEOPLE!! It is all an ACCESS ISSUE, and the environment is just a smoke screen, for these ANTI-SOCIAL PEOPLE to hide behind. It is just another form of mental illness!!
