Canada trip 2009
#1
We left from Searchmont, Ontario and stayed for two nights at Halfway Haven. Did 334 miles in 3 days. Lots of gravel road and logging roads. Here are some pics

I live in the Sault and have done the Searchmont to Wawa on sleds but never on a ATV. Frist half to Halfway Haven is nice but I got little fed up with the second half and following the Powerlines.
I can tell you were up here by the pics because we have not had a sunny day all July. LOL

The power lines was the better trail. Had some rocks and things to break up the fast road riding. Saturday we did about 25 miles in a thunderstorm. Rain suit on and hit the gas. Was a good weekend.
We saw 8 black bear. No moose..

We do the trip in one day to Wawa on the sleds.
We truck out ATV to Wawa every year for our fishing trips back track from the power dam. We never see any moose this year also.
Did you go to Wawa or just to Halfway haven and back?

We went to Half way the first day. Than to Chapleax (spelling?) the 2nd. That was 130 miles round trip. Half way to searchmont the 3rd day.
Wawa would have been 140+ miles and I guess the snowmobile trail takes you through some swamp. So you have to take non-marked logging roads to get through.

Your trip was longer we never whent to Chapleau. I,m sure the ATV ride is not as B line with the rivers and lakes and swamps not frozen. I would like to try your trip but all my ridding buddies are hard cord outdoorman for hunting and fishing and do not ride ATVs just for the sake of riding like I love to do.
Going solo would be insane up there. LOL

Chapleau is basically straight east (little north) from Halfway. Originally we were going to go to Wawa, but Steve (owner of Halfway) said Chapleau would be easier.
Going by yourself would be a little risky. The only breakdown we had was my tire. Was my fault, going to fast on a down hill and dodged the rock to my right, but slammed the one on the left rear.
10 plugs later in the sidewall (about 10 minute repair)we were back at it.
I wish I knew the area better to go off road and know where it comes out. The roads get a little boring, but never got the courage to see where some of the trails end. We did some, but would eventually turn around after 5-10 miles.
There are so many lakes up there its ridiculous. Fishing would have to be good. I just don't have time to fish. Hunting, golf, and ATVing takes up enough of my spare time. The wife and kid would never see me.

You must of did a lot of roads to go from Jeep lake (Halfway Haven) to Chapleau the Sled bush trails are D and F only south/ North.. Notice the long straight run of power lines to Wawa.
On our last fishing trip with 7 people we caught close to 200 Brook trout but we do alot of catch and release the limit is 5 each to take home.

About half the way was road the other half was a quad/2 track type trail. You actually go south on the snowmobile trail 9 miles, that takes you a T were you can go North/East. Like I said before, much of this trip was gravel roads. Beautiful country, but the riding is really easy.
Was a good way to get out of the city. I feel more at home when I am in the middle of no where.
