A good 6inchs ,I've been using quads for years ice fishing an never had probs, but people do go threw every year , they don't use there head nor do they take the time to learn how to read the ice ,and that's a fact ,4 people died this season alone .

I find ATV have no problem once on the lake and wider two wide sled trails but many trails are too narrow and if the ATV slips of those sled trails its sucked into 3 ft of soft snow and your stuck good.

I have had mine on 6" of ice, but I dont park on it at that thickness. I like to have a little more than that to park on. Luckily here in AK once we get 6 inches the next day there could be plenty and by the next weekend its not an issue!

Ive crossed many open water remote rivers and creeks up here in ak by skipping across, but the subject was about atv's on the ice.
