Default New ATV Break-in Question

Just got a new (leftover) 2008 250ex for my son's x-mas present. I have never baught a new quad before and not sure about break-in. The manual says change oil after first 100 miles then every 600 therafter. I find that very hard to believe. I change fluid and filter every 100-200 on my 4 yr old 400ex. So what would you guys suggest? And what would you suggest as the best fluids to run through them. They wont be raced ( at least not on a track ) but mostly trail ridden. Thanks for you thoughts.

An early oil change isn't a bad idea.

Personally, I'd not lug it or bounce it off the redline, but don't be afraid to get into the throttle hard right off the bat. Rings need pressure and heat in order to seat.

Oil wise, I'd stick with dino until it has a few hundred miles on it. 10W-40 rated JASO MA and API SG would work fine in most normal temp ranges.

Don't forget to adjust the valves, and the clutch.
