Default King Quad?

Hi Everybody;

My names Bill and this is my first post. I currently ride an 87' trailboss 4x4, and am looking to switch things up a bit. I want to get on a four stroke machine, and have been looking at some used bikes latley. i found a couple of nice older king quad 300's, and a weird one.. a king quad 350? the guy with the 350 was asking $2500 canadian, and i wasn't exactly sure what to think because i have never heard of a 350 king quad. any input? the nicest 300 i found was a 98 and it was $3000. the only thing that worries me is that i have heard it is hard to find rims for the king quads, and i would like to be able to get new rims if possible (not huge mud rims or anything, just incase i have a problem with the stockers). I also like the scrambler 500's and have seen some nice 99's in the $3000 range, but i hunt and ice fish, so i dont know about not having a low range. any recomendations? my price cap is about $3000 canadian, and it must be 4x4. (i want a sport quad, but my dad wants me to stick with a 4x4 for "when he gets stuck" lol) Power is not a huge concern, i ride a 250 currently, and neither is utility as my dad just bought a brand new 09' king quad 750 with eps, so we have a bike to use for that. but it must have at least one rack. Any input is appriciated, sorry for the long post but i would like to explain myself all at once. i ride in alot of hard pack trails, deep snow, and some mud. Thanks again everybody, looking forward to replies

Do you mean hard to find rims or tires? The 300 KQ from 91-03 used a 24x8x11 tire with a Common bolt battern of 4/140 but its a odder 11'' rim. The rear is a 25x10x12 tire with a odd 5/160 bolt pattern but being a common 12" rim finding tires is easy for it so changing the rims is not needed.

So changing the front rim is easy, and finding tires for the back is easy. There lots of tires still made for 11' rims if you look.
Never heard of a 350 KQ either.
Just buy a Sport ATV,when you for fishing or hunting just borrow your dads new 750KQ.

People on this site will freak on the prices you quoting, but used or new ATV prices here in Canada are crazy. My cousin just sold a 2001 500 Scrambler for $3200.

Ooops! sorry 4/140 is a odd pattern also,I was thinking 4/110. No matter there plenty of 11" tires still for sale.

thanks for the input. i want a scrambler pretty bad, but im just not sure about not having a low range. my dream bike is either a raptor 660, ds650, or a predator 500, but my dad says he wont allow me to get a sport bike so i kinda can't decide on that one, its a utility or scrambler sort of thing or nothing. and when i go riding, he goes too, we never go by ourselves so i dont usually have a chance to drive the KQ without him oh well

and thanks for the tire and rim info, i really like the maxxis zilla's, but my favorite tire are the kenda executioner's, but i cant get kenda's on an 11 inch rim. at least i could get them for the back... but im one of those people that likes to have the same all around so i dont know. what are your opinions on the 300's? and yeah the prices are rediculous, i wish they were different

There is no such thing as a KQ350, only a 300 (back then) which is actually a 280 cc with about 14 hp, not much if you wanted to put heavier tires on. The rims on these things are indestructible so I don't figure you'd ever have to replace one, tires shouldn't be hard to find. I had a 97 KQ, they are actually pretty capable machines with IRS (swing axle) and decent ground clearance and a front diff lock, way ahead of the time when they came out in '91. They are fairly heavy and slow but are as stable as a man hole cover and with 15 available forward gear ratios (hi/low/super low ranges X 5 speed) and 3 ratios in reverse you could pull a house off it's foundation with one. Bottom line is they will get you where you want to go just not that fast. If you can find one with low miles it should be reliable as an anvil, look for one that is '99 or up, they have a lot better bodywork, the fenders on the older ones are way to close to the tires.

Typing that has made me want one again....

The price is around average for this one, appears to be in better than average contition... just for comparison. I saw one a couple weeks back nearly identical for $1500 on that site.

Ive got a 2000 KQ 300. For the money its a great ATV. Its not near as refined as my Honda....but an equivalent Honda 4x4 would have been considerable more money.

Its not fast.....in fact my son on my 1995 Honda TRX200D owns me. A steep hill has me dropping a gear or two on the KQ while the smaller Honda doesnt need this......but the Honda is 2wd and alot lighter.

At any rate, its a very capable machine if your not in a hurry.

I realize your in Canada....but for giggles I will post this info anyways.

My KQ has 1100 miles on it. Came with a winch (generic) and Moose snow blade.....and 4 brand new ITP Mud Lites....I paid $1400.

The KQ 300 is hard core Utitiy the Honda is not,its not a speed machine for sure. Its advanage over any honda is a low range and even a ultra low range and true AWD diff lock.

you mentioned kenda executioner tires. I have them on my 09 KK 500 and they are heavy. (35lbs or so each wheel/tire combo)
With any replacement wheel / tires watch the weight because they will eat up your speed and quickness really quick.
On the otherhand they eat and throw mud like a champ

Good luck
