Default dual sport

hi its been a while since i posted but i was wondering if any of you knew much about dual sports. i will be moving out to Marine Air station Miramar pretty soon and i was looking into getting a motorcycle but once i saw the surrounding area i noticed a lot of desert terrain and fire roads i have been away from home for close to a year so i would love to get back into riding.

i grew up on four wheelers and i rode my friends rm 250 alot i am 5'9" 160 just wondering what size i should be looking for. this is going to be my daily driver also my weekend fun so any help would be great thanks

I had a dr650 it was a 93 though it was heavy has hell but it had all the torque you needed off road. I'm 6'4 175lbs it was the first bike I owned got it when I was 17. the newer duel sports should be a little lighter I think the kawi's are the heaviest at least they use to be haven't realy been keeping up with the duel sports. my buddy had an older 350 still had enough to pull the front wheels in 2nd but it topped out around 70 my 650 was clocked by a state trooper at 121 (buddy was off duty)

I had a 84 Honda XL600 and it could cruise all day on a freeway at 80 MPH without working a sweat and hit 105 mph if need be, but it was awfully heavy for trail riding and no fun when off road.

Then I bought a 88 Yamaha XT 350, it was fun on the trails but struggled to stay with the flow of traffic on Highways.

If I was to do it now,I would get this Suzuki DRZ400 2010 Suzuki DR-Z400S - Top Speed
Its light for the trails and fast enough for any Highway. I read it will cruise at 70 mph comfortably and hit 90 mph if asked.

It first came out in 2000 I think, when I was out of the sport. Wish it was around earlier.

Its what off/on road is all about. Do Both well.

If fast for on road is all you want BMW makes a tank of a F800 that does 130 mph without a vibration, might as well have a harley when it comes to off road though.

thanks tlc thats what i was lookin for something that can do both jobs pretty well. in a perfect world i would have a harley 883 iron for my on road ventures and a ktm 450xc for my off roading but the government does not pay me enough so it looks like i will have to settle for one thing that will do both
