Questions regarding choosing the right donor for Formula Cross
#1
Hi guys!
First and foremost please forgive me if this isnt the right section to post this in. I was debating on here or the ATV racing section, but felt this was more of a generic question. Also I did a search to see if this has been cover already and came up with no answers, so if its been covered again I apologize and if someone could provide a link that would rock.
I came on here today as I wanted to get some advice and I thought this forum would be a good place since you guys cover all manuf / models. So here is the deal ...
Im currently looking at getting started in a new motorsport created by Rhys Millen called Formula Cross. The cars take ATV donors and build mini rally cars with full cages and safety. So far it looks like a fun and affordable way to go racing. Previously I used to run Time Attack events in street cars, but found it to be expensive, and the constant rule changes made it difficult to be competitive.
So far they are building cars off the following models of donors:
450 YFZ
660 YFZ
700 YFZ
450 TRX
700 TRX
of which the following parts are used:
Engine
Exhaust
Electrical System
Intake
Cooling System
Wheels and Tires
Brakes
Rear Swing Arm and Components
Front Suspension
Gas Tank
Battery
Turn Key Start
Headlight and Taillights
according to what I have read all the "wet" weights will be around 620lbs. Now I have doubts about this being 100% accurate as they are just now completing their first model the YFC 450 version and are yet to complete the 700 build or 660 build so this may change.
Anyway .... based on the parts used, which bike do you think would be the best donor in your personal opinion and why? I read that the Yamaha has a dual cam motor vs the Honda's single cam? is that correct? also I read that the 450s are more high strung and better for racing vs the 700s as the 450s are designed for racing and the 700s are more for mix use (racing / trail)???
Excuse my noobness on this but thats why Im here.
