Trying to decide

Hold you until you get what you want. Don't buy something just because you got a good deal on it. I turned down a LTZ400 for $400 because its not really what I wanted, I don't have room for yet another quad (especailly one I don't have much use for), and I would have to do a lot of work to it.

Haha yeah that's my problem. I always do that, I'll buy something because I can afford it. I think I'm gonna wait until I find a true utility. That's what I really want. That's probably the best advice is to just hold off.

I also don't think you can wrap everything you want into one quad. At least I can't. That's like having pizza with ice cream and cake on top... it just doesn't work that way. So I have a quad that's light and powerful for going fast and jumping around. And I have one that's 4x4 for pulling trailers and things only a 4x4 would do. And I have one that's just an easy quad. Its easy to ride, its small, its fun, its reliable, but really does nothing extemely well, though it does a little of everything decently. If that was the only quad I had, I would always want more.

Ok guys I think I have it narrowed down to two quads although I still haven't seen either of them.
First is the 98 scrambler 500 ho 4x4, appears to be clean and has a rear rack. Owner says everything on it works. Can get it for $1200. Only thing I'm not crazy about is that it's purple, but ill call it Barney and have it covered in mud.
Second is a 99 Polaris Xplorer 300 4x4. Has new tires, and new chains. Owner says it looks pretty good, has small tear in seat but runs good. I have not seen pictures if this one yet, he lives about 2.5 hours away. I can get this one it $900. He said he would include a trailer for another $250. He is coming through where I live tomorrow and said he'd bring it with him.
I've done some research on the scramblers but haven't had much luck finding anything on the xplorer's. Are the 300 2 strokes pretty reliable?
Thanks,
Joey

I can't say much about polaris, but 2-strokes in general are reliable. There is no valve-train to give you problems (the biggest of which would be a worn intake valve from a poor airfilter). But you have to mix gas and oil, it sounds like a chainsaw, and you leave a trail of smoke everywhere you go. And if your unit has an automatic oiler for the gas, I would disable that and premix my gas.
Is the purple the color of the plastic? Or has it been painted? Brake cleaner will take off paint fairly easy. $4, a roll of paper towels, some elbow grease, and about 2 hrs would have the plastic back to original color.

Haha the one I'm looking at is a little different than that.
I'm probably gonna get the xplorer unless its just total junk. If I don't get it I'm meeting the guy with the scrambler Monday. I really like Polaris and I'm sure ill be happy with either one. I'm ready to be riding instead of spending all my time on Craigslist.
