Hello, I am getting a Rancher style ATV. Its a 96 2wd Honda 300. I am curious what the differance between Rancher style ATV and more of a race style ATV. I mostly plan on using on rough trails not jumping or anything extreme. Any info would be great.

Thanks

You pretty much answered you own question in your post. The pure sport machines generally have a manual clutch, better suspension, lower profile rear tires and more horse power and are better suited to more aggressive riding. There are some utility and sport/utility quads that are great for both work and play. Your best bet is to ride both types of machines to see which fits your riding style.

utilities are for old people.

utilities are normally pretty heavy duty an 4x4 while a sport or racing quads are chain driven rer wheel drive machines with a clutch.

i rode a lot of hard core woods trails in a sport quad. if you want to go play in excessively deep mud or tow stuff get a utility, otherwise sport quads are fun. lots and lots of aftermarket stuff for the aport quads.. ( as well as the utilities to, i guess)

With the latter, you want to go over stuff, fast. The former, thru stuff,
usually slow.

Utility quads can carry things on racks, and tow trailers with a hitch. The
sport quads ride better with great suspensions and light weight. I use
them both. Lots of hybids out there these days.

I'm getting old, but I used to ride dirt and street motorcycles, so I love
manual clutches, but you can't get them on utilities anymore. I do NOT
change the ATV thumb throttles over to twist throttles like some M/C
riders do for the sport quads. Once upon a time, there was a 4x2 utility
quad with a manual clutch, differential, and PTO (88 Yamaha TerraPro).
No more.
