For mine I just want to get on the thing and ride, with your normal maintenance, be able to handle some rougher terrain when needed, which I am pretty sure most can do this anyway. I guess I want a 4x4 Lazyboy...
Can-Am does have a nice seat and a pretty comfortable ride but I find the Can-Am pogos a bit up and down in the rear. Kind of a slap-you-in-the-butt kind of thing. Polaris Sportsman is probably the most comfortable of the quads I've been on. If you want to handle rough terrain make sure you get a quad with really good ground clearance. Can-Am, Polaris, Yamaha Grizzly, Kawasaki Brute Force, and Suzuki King Quad all have really good clearance in a single rider machine. Polaris has about the best on-board storage with Can-Am in a close second place. The rest have some storage options but nothing like the volume of the two mentioned. Can-Am has the best power per cc. For instance, the Can-Am 650 will outrun any quad but the Polaris 850 and 1000, and the Can-Am 800 and 1000. Just some random thoughts.

that would be without question Honda the things are like tanks and as long as you do regular maintenance such as oil and filters you will have little to no issues, my 05 for example has never had anything happen that wasn't user related

however it's worth noting Honda is very behind the times with their ATVs i believe only 1 model has a diff lock which is the 2014 foreman 500 and they also lack IRS which i believe is only on the Rubicon 500 and 420. both of those features have become pretty standard for other brands such as Can-Am and Suzuki

when i went looking last year i found Suzuki to be more comfortable but that really comes down to personal preference and you'll just have to sit on some to find what you like

I don't think anyone mentioned Arctic Cat yet. I don't know much about them except that they've always had a lot of ground clearance. I checked the specs on one and it's 11" even. The same as some Sportsmans and .2" more than a Grizzly. I didn't check the other brands but I doubt if any have more clearance than the Sportsman XPs at 11.5". I need IRS because of my arthritis and that's also where the great ground clearance comes from too.

That's just one thing that I look for. Some kind of locking 4x4 is another one I need for snow plowing. Most of the weight is on the front and the back spins a lot in 4x2. Plus 4x4 has gotten me out of spots where a 3 wheel drive would have left me stuck. Like one time I had one front wheel and the rear wheel on the opposite side both hanging in the air when I backed into a hole.

don't know much about Arctic Cat either but one guy i ride with has their 650 mud pro and it does have a lot of ground clearance and seemed like a really good ride but i can't say much about how they perform in mud since he really shys away from mud which doesn't make a lot of sense having a ride called a mud pro but to each his own lol

also for me a diff lock is pretty much mandatory especially for winter riding, i've been saved quite a few times just this month by the diff lock

ATVs come in 3 chassis sizes. Small,Mid and Full size.
Its not about motor sized.

A 420 Rancher and 450 Grizzly are mid chassis ATVs yet a 400 Sportsman or 450KQ are larger full sized chassis.

The 450KQ is the same ATV as the big bore 750KQ
The 400Sportsman is the same ATV as the 800 Sporstman.
Only the motors are different.

See link. 2007 Suzuki KingQuad® 450 4x4 ATVs

And

A full size chassis is much more roomy then a Mid sized Chassis.

Bigger Motor does not mean bigger ATV always.

I am new here, but this thread caught my attention.
I am 6'4" and went from a 500 Outlaw to a 800 Outlander Max and it was night and day. On the Outlaw I literally felt like my knees were going to go into the front tires when i was riding aggressively.
The Outlander Max, although far from sporty, fit me much better.
There is tons of room on the Max and sometimes I would actually make myself slide back because I had so much room left on the seat. Coming off MX, I was always so used to hugging the gas tank.

I have know moved onto a Scrambler XP and it is the perfect mix of both.

I believe the only sport quad I ever felt comfortable on was a Raptor 700.

I believe most full size atvs should fit you fine. I am 6 feet but have really long legs and can ride my 250 fine
