As others have said, the Polaris has a very comfortable ride, easy to use 4wd, and a very powerful engine. Yamaha is a bit more reliable and being thinner, a little more nimble on tight trails. I've only been on the 550 Yamaha and it's a good all around quad. One thing that would cause me to lean towards a Polaris over the Yamaha is on board storage options. The under-front-rack storage is very nice. I had it on a 2006 Sportsman X2 and I could carry a ton of things for emergency situations. It's a great option for long rides. Either way, I think you can have an absolute blast on either machine.

Well.
I couldn't wait any longer, I finally pulled the trigger. I went with the Polaris. I know most of you guys here are Yamaha fans, and you definitely made some good points, but I had to go for the sportsman. I really liked em both, but for some reason I just had a thing for the Polaris. Anyway, I just picked it up today and I'm loving it! Can't look back now! Thank you all for your help!

ATVs with their locked rear wheels do not turn well on pavement. On the dirt you actually use the rear wheel spin to help turn.
I'm cheap so I would take the 700 Grizzly with $4300 in my pocket.
The good looking plastic does not last long and out on the trails there are not many animals to impress with a neat color Color Scheme .
Any utility ATV will do that even a 2wd model .
I take my 350 out on rides with people with 800s and on our rough 25mph trails I seldom get to open it up or need to put it in 4wd. The main thing is they both have IRS and that sure smoothens out the bumps for sure.

I would be riding mostly in the woods, exploring on and off trail. Maybe a little mud but not much.
