Default Kodiak 450 battery issues

Hey guys so here's my problem I have a Kodiak 450 that keeps shorting out batteries this is the third battery it has shorted out, this one is less than a month old and maybe only has about 15 hours on it it's a ranch bike and its used primarily for spraying or putting around in the field for the most part. As far as trouble shooting goes I've checked cleaned and greased all plugs, connectors, and fuses nothing seems out of whack there. When the key is off I have 12.20 volts but when the key is on it drops to 3 volts and the dash won't come on if I switch the kill switch the dash comes on and I read 9 volts. I know the battery is bad I'm just trying to figure out what keeps shorting out my battery. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance guys

Make sure to check all the cables to the battery and connections on the battery are tight. Sounds like the regulator/rectifier needs to be replaced. Before replacing the regulator/rectifier, check the entire wire harness for any broken or shorting out wires. Can pick up a new regulator/rectifier for about $30.

The harness has been quadruple checked and all is ok there. Regulator was gonna be my next part to replace so I'm glad I was thinking on the right track. Thanks for the input bikedad

Did you pull the plastics off to check harness? that is the only way to check it properly and well as undoing every pc of wrap and tape as wires could be shorting inside the wrap.

no I did not unwrap everything as I don't feel like pulling out the entire harness to re-wrap it. Im banking on the $30 regulator which I just installed now just have to run it a few days and see if the problem is fixed. If not pulling the entire harness will be on the list
