Thanks Red. That's all food information.

I was looking for anything specific to the 06 Polaris 500 that I should watch out for.

Weak tranny, stator etc that I should look closer than normal at.

About 3 grand would be a reasonable price to expect. 370 hours is about average for a 9-10 year old machine. That's roughly about what my 06 Grizzly has and that's about what I paid for it a couple months ago. Check for the obvious things like does it start easily and idle properly. Do the brakes work well? Does the transmission go into gear properly? Does the 4x4 work? Are the tires decent or worn out? New tires are not that expensive but if it has good tires, thats money saved and it it doesn't, that gives you more room to haggle. Does it have accessories you want like a winch perhaps and does it work? A winch on a used quad is a definite plus. I assume you saw pics already so it must look to be in good shape. Good luck.

Thanks greg, From the pics it looks pretty clean. Seller mentioned a couple minor issues like a bracket that might need replacing. It does have a winch, but I am not sure if its OEM or not.

I think it has a small hitch receiver on it stock. I will want to pull my alum kayak trailer and a small utility trailer. So I need to see if I will need to upgrade, or of that hitch will handle my needs.

He says it just had service, fluids and belt changed. So I hope its been taken care of.

I did not ask if he has the title on hand. Seems like some sellers state "no title". It won't get driven on the road anyway, so I am not sure how big of an issue that is in FL as long as the seller can prove ownership.. right?

Polaris at some point moved from welded point where you bolt on a trailer ball of your choice to a 1.25" receiver which is nice if you have to switch ball sizes for different trailers quickly without tools.
Either way it will tow well over the ATV,s 1,200lb tow capacity.

My SUV has a 1.25" receiver and is rated at 3,500lbs.

Your kayak trailer probably isn't that heavy so I think you should be ok with the stock setup. Manufacturers usually list tow rating as a very conservative estimate. They know their quads will tow more but give a smaller rating so that if you exceed it and break something, then they're not liable. It becomes a safety issue too. Sometimes they can tow more than the brakes can stop within a reasonable distance. A heavy trailer pushing you because you can't stop or steer would be a bit unnerving.
