The carb is going to need more than a soaking. Yo will need to tear it down and get all the little holes cleaned out. Take your time and make sure you get everything or u will be doing it again

I'm no novice to old carbs. I broke it down and soaked in chem dip. Sprayed with carb cleaner, blew out with compressed air. The float needle had to be removed with pliers! Its in rough shape. Screws are rusted and stripping out.

I did get it back together and in the machine. Not knowing what to set anything at I went with 2 turns out on the air mix. The ATV started up! Doesn’t really run well at all but I got it going enough to test the transmission. She moves in hi, low, and reverse. I think it best to replace the carb. If I had one this bad on a vespa I'd replace it. What are your thoughts on them? I see some on ebay and amazon for 66 bucks. There is an OEM on ebay from a 96 thats been cleaned and re-built for 150. That seems to be my best bet.

All the controls are frozen as well. The rear brake arm coming out of the hub is stuck too. Now that I know it runs I can feel better about throwing some money at it.

Thanks! The link has been helpful. I am going to order the Clymers book. I've got the Haynes on the way.

It all depends on how much money you have and want to dump into the rig. Personally I've done ok on old dirt bikes and scooters with cheap Chinese carbs, a lot look like they were cast from the same molds as the original Mikunis were. If you plan on riding out in the *****-wacks in the middle of a Maine winter, I'd get the best I could afford and not mess with Chinese. If you're just romping around the house, or always on trails with friends, I've done quite well with the Chinese stuff.
