Default Buying without a title.

Hi all, new here, and new to the states from the UK.

Inspired by the 'rappy' thread on here, I'm looking for a little project, and have found a bargain 02 raptor rolling chassis. Only problem is he doesn't have a title for it.

Apparently it's been family/friend owned all its life, but before I go and sink $$$$'s into it, should I be worried about no title, is there away to get a title (not registered to the seller, so cannot apply for lost title) or, anything you guys suggest? Not 100% on the ball with how things work in over here yet! If it makes any difference, I'm in Smith County, Missippi.

I cant help at the moment but I'm also kind of in the same boat with my big bear 350. I bought it 2 years ago off a guy who brought the quad too me and when he arrived he said he forgot the title and got my address and said he would mail it to me .....after not seeing it in mailbox after awhile I decided to call him and he didn't answer or return my call so I'm not sure what my options are either

You should still be able to apply for a lost title no matter who owns it. At the very least do a vin search and see if its reported stolen.

Yep, I agree with Zrock, call the local sheriffs dept and have them run the vin number to see if it is stolen. If not then depending on the state in which you reside you can either apply for a lost title or apply for a title where vehicles have been built from spare parts, each state has a different name for them. Here in Ohio they are called a salvage title. However a vin number from a frame is usually required to get started. Call your local police dept and they should be able to direct you in the correct proceedure.

Wouldn't it be easier to simply buy a Raptor 660 that has everything and runs regardless of whether it has a title or not? I mean I guess you can buy a rolling chassis if its real cheap like $300-$400 but I've seen Raptor 660's that need nothing for $2000 or less around here that are ready to ride. Heck here's one for $800 that might not need a lot to get running again 02 raptor 660. I can understand finding a bargain and putting some work into it to get it running but simply finding one that simply doesn't run would take a lot less effort and money to get it back on the trail.

I see your point, but I'm after a project, i'm wanting something to strip down to the bare frame, respray, and rebuild from frame up how I want it. Been offered the rolling chassis (everything bar engine) for $200. I just don't want to put some money into it, and it never be 'mine' due to not having a title for it.
